Saw the new science-fiction thriller, Looper starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Jeff Daniels, and Emily Blunt, last night. The theater was fully packed for the 9:30 pm showing and the movie did not disappoint for the most part.
The story is innovative, the special effects were superb, the acting terrific, and the topic plausible, though it would be nice to see some movies with positive visions of the future now and then.
Once again, Joseph Gordon-Levitt shows why he is the biggest male movie star in Hollywood these days. Emily Blunt was superb too. In fact she played Sara, my favorite character in the film.
Only minor quibbles for me were the amount of violence – just needed to be ratcheted down a little, though it could have been much worse. And there was one brief sequence early in the movie that had me a tad lost on why it was included. To me, coherence and logic are important in science-fiction.
Otherwise, go see Looper. It is quite a mind trip!

If there’s one thing Joseph Gordon-Levitt absorbed from the movie Looper, it’s that science-fiction movies are always about something other than they appear.
