A “Wales” of a great Welsh trail

Kudos to Wales for accomplishing something that no other country on the planet has done – in 2012, it completed a hiking trail along its entire 870 mile long coastline. Yes…you read that correctly – its entire coastline! What a cool idea and a great way to explore this beautiful country.

Upon learning about the Wales Coast Path recently, Wales has definitely been moved to right below the top of our future travel destinations, just behind New Zealand. Here is a pdf brochure and below are a map of the route from the pdf file, as well as several stunning photographs of this remarkable and scenic trail. I think all will agree the path would be a remarkable hike.

One could only wish that such a coastal path could be completed elsewhere, such as along the Great Lakes, Lake Baikal in Russia, the Puget Sound, Lake Tahoe, the fjords of Norway, and many other scenic locations across the globe. My prediction is the Wales Coast Path will eventually achieve near-mythical status alongside such notable hiking routes as the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.

    This is amazing!! In India we use our beaches as garbage dumps. I’m glad to see some country’s taking initiative to keep their coasts clean.

    Yes well done Wales, and a beautiful coastline it is too. Here in England we lag a bit behind but according to The Independent this morning in an article relating to Govt. proposals on coastal access;
    ” Briefings suggest that the subsequent Defra legislation will either create a coastal footpath around the whole of England, or impose a blanket “right of access” to all parts of the coast.”
    As anyone who has tried walking the English coastline (S.W. Coast Path excepted) this is welcome news indeed.
