Where’s the respect? Sexist band names – NSFW

CAUTION NSFW: The following is a list of sexist band names, some of which are quite offensive and violent. I frankly do not understand what possesses a band to use a name that depicts assault, abuse, mistreatment, bondage, and other vile acts other than to garner attention and publicity. Perhaps that is the point. Maybe, in some instances, the music is not good enough to sell itself?  If so, it is a sad commentary on purchasing habits, marketing, advertising, and the music industry.

Particularly sad is the fact that several of the band names that employ sexual stereotypes (The Go Go’s and Vixen) are all-female groups. If anyone should be setting a good example for others, it’s female musicians. That does not excuse the guys, though, they ought to know better.

Alice in Chains

Anal Cunt

Barenaked Ladies

Bullet for My Valentine

Cheap Girls

Cheap Trick

Death Cab for Cutie (DCFC)

Everything, but the Girl

Flogging Molly

Goo Goo Dolls

Jane’s Addiction

Killing Heidi

My Bloody Valentine

Nashville Pussy

New Pornographers

Pussy Pirates

She Wants Revenge

Stripper’s Union

The Breeders

The Go Go’s

The Nymphs

The Runaways

Twisted Sister

Violent Femmes

Vixen

With March being Women’s History Month, let’s hope that over time, such names will no longer be used for identifying musical groups. Women deserve more respect than is given them in such foul band names.

No, just voicing my opinion. Sorry you disagree. Perhaps one or two of those listed could be debated, but the vast majority of the band names are not respectful towards women.

I think you might be slightly more mental than you realise… most of these seem to be truly clutching at straws.
But yes, let’s hope more people are respectful towards women in the future all the same.
