Top states for clean energy patents in 2010


According to the 2010 Clean Energy Patent Growth Index, the following states were the top 10 producers of patents for clean energy applications in the United States:

  1. California: 207 patents
  2. Michigan: 192 patents
  3. New York: 100 patents
  4. Illinois: 37 patents
  5. Connecticut and Massachusetts: 30 patents each
  6. Ohio: 25 patents
  7. Pennsylvania and Texas: 24 patents each
  8. Florida: 23 patents

Applications include fuel cells, biomass/biofuels, solar, wind, hybrid/electric, geothermal, tidal/wave, hydroelectric, and other clean/green/renewable energy technologies. Congratulations to those in each of these ten states that are on the cutting edge of green and clean technologies.
