DCFC at Detroit’s Fox Theater

Attended a superb concert by Death Cab for Cutie (DCFC) at the historic Fox Theater in Detroit last night. The opening act was Frightened Rabbit from Scotland who also played a terrific set.

DCFC put on a fabulous two-hour show which included songs from their entire discography including a number of tracks off their masterful new album, Codes and Keys.  Their encore alone contained five songs. What was so enjoyable were the intimate setting and the fine acoustics. It was obvious that both the band and the audience were enjoying themselves immensely. Great, great concert!

As a music venue, it would be hard to find someplace nicer and more ornate than the Fox Theater. The architecture is simply amazing (see photos below). First time I have ever been to a concert where ushers took you to your seats using flashlights to lead the way (lights had already dimmed for Frightened Rabbit) and where you took an elevator that was operated by an usher to the balcony seating area. Definitely a classy operation – I could get used to this.
