America’s 25 best cities for LBGT residents

Below is a list prepared by Advocate.com of the 25 best cities in the United States for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) residents. The criteria used to determine this list (some of which  are being debated vigorously on the Advocate.com Facebook page) are presented in the following chart:

I must say that the city that was determined to be number one was a surprise to me. Nice to see two Michigan cities make the list, though the recent repeal of domestic partner benefits by a narrow-minded legislature and Governor may impact their standing in future polls.  Here’s the list:

  1. Salt Lake City, Utah
  2. Orlando, Florida
  3. Cambridge, Massachusetts
  4. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  5. Seattle, Washington
  6. Ann Arbor, Michigan
  7. Twin Cities, Minnesota
  8. Knoxville, Tennessee
  9. Atlanta, Georgia
  10. Grand Rapids, Michigan
  11. Little Rick, Arkansas
  12. Portland, Oregon
  13. Austin, Texas
  14. Long Beach, California
  15. Denver, Colorado
  16. Washington, DC
  17. New Orleans, Louisiana
  18. San Francisco, California
  19. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  20. Salem, Oregon
  21. Madison, Wisconsin
  22. Eugene, Oregon
  23. Oakland, California
