Each year as the running of bulls begins in Pamplona, Spain, much of the world media highlights the mounting list of injuries that take place. In addition, I will occasionally hear people comment on how stupid the participants are.
Granted, running with charging bulls along and through narrow cobblestone streets is not my idea of fun, nor do I care for how bulls are treated in bullfight rings at all. But, can those who say that running with the bulls is stupid really say that it is any more dangerous than the following cultural traditions and sports from around the world?
- Bronco and bull riding at rodeos across North America
- Cliff diving
- Bungee jumping anywhere
- Scuba diving with sharks
- Surf-boarding in shark infested waters
- Caber tossing or stone put at Scottish Highland Games
- Skydiving
- Hang-gliding
- Half-pipe and big-air jump skateboarding
- Demolition derbies
- Polo and bicycle polo
- Street luge
- Base jumping
- Cheerleading
- Motocross or BMX
