On Being is the title of a fantastic album by an alternative rock/indie band from Mid-Michigan called Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers. Yes, they have a lengthy band name that would qualify for inclusion on my list of the longest ones, but don’t let that deter you from listening to this very special album.
It is hard to clearly articulate the mood emanating from On Being other than to say it has five of the best tunes I have heard in quite some time. The album tracks are finely crafted with exquisite lyrics that Joe Hertler belts out in a very impassioned manner reminiscent of Neil Young or John Lennon – he literally becomes the lyrics.
While the entire album is excellent, my personal favorite tracks are the following five:
- “Ego Loss on Grand River Avenue” (see video below)
- “We Are Everything”
- “Carbon 14”
- “What it Feels Like to Drown”
- “Best Friend”
If you get a chance, be sure to see Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers in concert. Here is a weblink to their upcoming tour dates. The band puts on an uplifting, exciting, energetic, and emotional performance. Also, check out On Being. It is well worth the price and then some. Enjoy!
