It might be noted that most of the criminals in Chicago are from the Sunbelt, even if it was their parents or grandparents who migrated to the city decades ago. If you keep your ears open, you’ll hear the Southern accents – not much assimilation. Unlike London’s first Muslim Mayor, a 1st-generation Brit – who has a regular British accent. Also to put it delicately, some of the criminals are from points “south of the Sunbelt” by which I mean they or their ancestors are from countries to the south of the USA. There are big cultural differences between most of Chicago’s violent criminals and the law-abiding residents who don’t have those southern backgrounds. Of course, most Chicago residents, regardless of geographic background, aren’t violent criminals.
