I was privileged to see the movie Arrival this afternoon. Unlike many science-fiction genre movies that too often rely on viseral action sequences to hold their audience’s attention, Arrival is an elegant film that makes you think while also capturing your imagination.
Think of this movie along the lines of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), or Contact (1997). It is a gorgeous movie with sound and emotions as key components. Add in a lovely score and superb acting by the three primary stars – Amy Adams (can you say Oscar?), Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker and you have a must see movie and a worthy Oscar contender in numerous categories. Bravo!!!
