Here’s some sweet fun for Independence Day. Below is a list of iconic, as well as newer doughnut/donut chains across America, including their hometown and the year they were founded (if known). Those doughnut/donut chains shown in bold are our favorite clever names, while those in italics have been visited or their donuts tasted. After the first list for the chains is separate one of independent donut shops with clever names, along with their hometown.

Scanning the geography of the donut chains, it is fairly safe to say that Greater Boston is the epicenter of donuts in the United States, as it is the hometown of dunking’ donuts, Honey Dew Donuts, Mike’s Donuts, Boston Donuts, and several other chains.
