Working list – World’s longest ‘urban’ escalators

Below is a working list of the longest urban escalators in the world. This list does not include the sum total length of multi-escalator systems (such as the Central-Mid Levels Escalator/Walkway System in Hong Kong), but only individual escalators or those specific escalators that meet the minimum length criteria of 125 feet that also happen to be a unit within a larger escalator system (see Communal District 13 escalators in Medellin, Colombia listed below). Individual escalators may include parallel units moving in opposite or the same direction, criss-crossing units, and banks of elevator units.

9. Huangguan Escalator – Chongqing, China = 367 feet in length and 173 feet of elevation change (1996)

10. Khatai Metro Station – Baku, Azerbaijan = 328 feet in length and 160 feet of elevation change (2019)

* Estimated escalator length based on the standard 30 degree incline using the known height to determine the length of the hypotenuse. For escalators with a 35 degree inclination, this number would be less was the angle is steeper.

    Hi – Was recently in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Abay station on the single line metro has an escalator of 46m (150 feet) in height.

    The escalator in Bonneville Powerhouse 2 is 154 feet in length, and has an elevation change of 66 feet.
