While I love rock ‘n’ roll music, there are certain songs that bug the daylights out of me. For whatever reason, they just grate on my nerves. It could be the singer’s voice, the lyrics, the number of times it’s been played, the melody, the beat, or a combination of all of the above. Some of the songs listed come from bands/artists who I am (or was) a big fan of, but this particular song just doesn’t jive with me. Others are from bands/artists whom I was never a fan and never will be…Kid Rock for example.
Feel free to comment on these or submit your candidates. This list does not include pop music songs, which would be a much longer list.
- Any song recorded by Kid Rock
- Bungle in the Jungle – Jethro Tull
- Cocaine – Eric Clapton
- Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult
- The Final Countdown – Europe
- Hot Legs – Rod Stewart
- In-a-Godda-da-Vida – Iron Butterfly
- I Shot the Sheriff – Eric Clapton
- The Joker – Steve Miller Band
- Like a Rock – Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
- Love Hurts – Nazareth
- Mr. Roboto – Styx
- Rocky Mountain Way – Joe Walsh
- Silly Love Songs – Paul McCartney & Wings
- Start Me Up – The Rolling Stones – I cringe every time I hear this, particularly at NFL games
- Sussudio – Phil Collins
- TNT AC/DC
There’s 2 on your list I haven’t had a problem with: “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and “In-a-Godda-da-Vida”.
On the other hand, I’ve always cringed at “Silly Love Songs”. Paul McCartney did a lot of mushy crap after the Beatles. This is one.
Well – that’s the difference in individual tastes. Discuss – but not worth fighting over.

Paul M. & Wings first two albums (Ram and Band on the Run) were great as was the Bond theme “Live and Let Die,” but after that his songs became to commercial or pop-oriented.
