Muy bien Mexican food in flyover country!

While traveling across the heartland of America, we have found that Mexican restaurants provide the best and most consistent quality food for dinner on a regular basis. Below are those where we have enjoyed meals and if the timing and route work out, we dine at whenever we are passing through the area or are in town for a visit.

These restaurants are listed in alphabetical order by city, though our favorite is highlighted with asterisks and bold. Weblinks are provided to each restaurant, as well.

• Custer, South Dakota – Maria’s – delicious Mexican food in downtown Custer

• Mesilla (Las Cruces), New Mexico – La Posta (1939) – history, service, and yummy food

• Mt. Pleasant, Iowa – Mi Pueblo Real – the place to eat for Mexican in Mt. Pleasant

• Okemos (Lansing), Michigan – Cancun Mexican Grill – multiple locations in Mid-Michigan with numerous tasty menu choices

• O’Neil, Nebraska – El Nopal Mexican Cuisine – a welcome option along US 20 in northern Nebraska

• Pontoon Beach (St. Louis area), Illinois – Tres Caminos Restaurant & Mexican Kitchen – just off of I-270 with pleasant outdoor seating

• Pratt, Kansas – Los Cabos Fajita House – always a welcome stop in Kansas

• Santa Fe, New Mexico – Palacio Cafe – fine food with reasonable prices in Santa Fe

• Silver City, New Mexico – The Jalisco Cafe – muy popular restaurante!

• **Taos, New Mexico – La Cueva Cafe** – small, unassuming with fantastic food and delightful outdoor seating!
