Back on May 4th, girlhouse released her fourth EP in just two (2) years. This weekend, she’s embarking on a concert tour across the country. And late last week, while we driving through Amarillo, Texas we heard her music for the first time, when FM 90 KACV played current single entitled “You Don’t Think About Me.” That motivated us to think about her music and listen to her discography upon arriving home.
Well, now is certainly the time for Indie Rock fans and music lovers to start thinking about girlhouse and start playing/buying her music, because her four EPs are brilliant!
Lauren Luiz is heart and soul of girlhouse. Her lyrics are reflective, passionate, relatable, and adorned with just the right amount of angst and snarkiness. Each song has its own unique identity, sound, and form. This makes them especially enjoyable because they stand on their own individual strength and definitely do not start sounding too much alike.
Her music ranges from catchy, to emotional, to deeply thought-provoking, to all of the above within the same tune. They feature a healthy mix of guitars (led by her), bass, and percussion, while not overwhelming her melodious vocals.
All of her EPs have multiple tracks that I love and play all the time along with the two standalone singles. Here are my personal faves in order by release and by favorite song(s) on each release — and yes, her stage name, each of the EPs, and each song are spelled in lower case.
